Kintai Bridge Projection Mapping Performance Art - "A Bridge through Time"  - A 3DVR Use Case

In May 30, 2015, Forum 8 Co. Ltd. became a major sponsor to a projection mapping performance art project at Kintai Bridge, one of Japan's most geniusly designed bridges during the Edo-Era in 1673, at Yamaguchi Prefecture.　 Leveraging on the nostalgic 5-arched design, the projection was done between the 2nd to the 5th arches, onto the 3 stone piers that support them. The video contents are designed by the State of the Art Technologies in Expression Association. Several local specialities such as lotus roots, white snakes (native wild snake to Iwakuni, Yamaguchi), as well as the Iwakuni Airport mascot Sorappy appeared in the video which attracted warm reactions from local audiences. This project was widely covered by local media.

The day of the projection mapping performance. The project attracted many audiences who could be seen sitting around the river banks or inside boats.

FORUM 8's role in this project involved retrieving the point cloud data for the bridge to build the exact 3D replica model for layout design simulation in virtual space. This is an example of how the latest virtual reality construction information modeling technologies can turn a road structure into something more entertaining such as projection mapping screen.
