TRB 6th International Symposium on Visualization in Transportation

Date:August 20-23, 2011 Location:Hilton Chicago Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, USA (Up&Coming 2011 Late fall issue)

FORUM 8 and one of its French Partner companies, BMIA of Bordeaux, attended this year's TRB Visualization Symposium in Chicago. The delegates came from transport consultancies, private companies and State DOTs from all over the USA and Canada. Philippe Marsaud of BMIA gave a presentation on Monday 22nd entitled "The Application of 3D Visual Interactive Simulation Technology to Highway and Tunnel Emergency Training and Management." The presentation was very well attended and generated many questions both immediately after the presentation and then later over coffee.Philippe's presentation was based on the joint Forum8 and BMIA initiative known as G'VAL.
This new solution involves the use of real-time 3D Visual Interactive Simulation software (UC-win/Road) to produce realistic and accurate visual simulations which allow communication:
Internally with the project team prior to and during the evolution of the project
Externally with stakeholders and the media

Driven by the SCADA system, G'VAL allows Tunnel and Road operators to be trained in a realistic environment thanks to the use of the real operational Human Management Interface (HMI).
The 3D visual simulation of a wide range of different scenarios provides the user with the ability to evaluate and assess the impact of every conceivable potential traffic emergency incident.
