FORUM8 has won the 3D blind analysis contest by using "Engineer's Studio(TM)"
On July 8, 2010, a combined team formed by Forum8 employee and the president of A-Works, Hiroki Aoto, Tokyo city university Professor, Hiromichi Yoshikawa were commended for "Destruction analysis blind analysis contest result the commendation of the bridge column earthquake proofing experiment used nature mortar". The team's bridge earthquake proofing experiment results of research announcement meeting (sponsorship (Germany) Natl. Res. Inst. for Earth Sci. and Disaster Prevention) in 2010 emerged as winners and were named champions.

The analyzed object's column support was predicted as an amount of model earthquake proofing RC supporting column used nature mortar (HPFRCC) which does not grow on for a pillar basal part in the next generation. We analyzed it with Engineer 's Studio and were able to predict experimental results with high precision.




Outline of "Engineer's Studio(TM)"
Engineer's Studio, 3D FEM analysis program is in house development from pre-processing and calculation engine to post-processing.
This program analysis non-linear behavior of structure by modeling with beam elements considering a part of civil engineering and building structure as one bar or continuous plate elements.

Program Features
Main feature in analysis is that implement the 3D filer elements, which have ever received a good reputation and many actual results in UC-win/FRAME(3D) and the plate elements based on the Reissner-Mindlin theory and also static / dynamic analysis are available, considering material nonlinearity and geometric nonlinearity(Large Displacement) simultaneously.

Plate elements can have laminated structures, consists of layers which direct to the thickness way
and define each setting for different type of materials between each layers or linear/non/linearity.
Reinforcement concrete non linear constitutive equation is adopted as concrete constitutive equation applied to the plate elements, which was developed by the concrete laboratory in Tokyo University.

3D Laser Scanning and Modeling Service
  • In the surveying and construction industries, there is a growing interest in 3D modeling using point-cloud data, which is collected using high-precision mobile GPS device. In UC-win/Road Ver.5, there is a new function that enables users to import and edit point cloud data in real time. (UC-win/Road Point Coud Modeling) There is a variety of uses for this new feature.
    Previously, point cloud data was solely used as reference points to be displayed or used in converting to 3D. Whereas, the point cloud data modeled in UC-win/Road can be used in various ways, such as to verify projects with 3D models and VR models that were created during the planning stage with high precision by measuring accurately the complete 3D objects and roads.

    FORUM 8 is launching "3D Laser Scanning and Modeling Service" using Nikon-Trimblefs 3D laser scanning device. Using this service, customers can receive assistance in collecting and modeling point cloud data. Since we start offering VR modeling service using point cloud data provided by clients at the same time, we are able to provide VR modeling service (UC-win/Road Support Service) using data provided by clients and data provided to clients. FORUM8 has already imported point cloud data and tested them, with the help of various scanner makers, thus, we can guarantee that we are able to display and edit of data with more than 20 million points in real time.

    3D laser scanning service has following features, and the procedure begins with decision of the measurement position, the scanning and then the post-processing, as shown in the below diagram.


    Point cloud data model in color can be acquired as above.
    UC-win/Road Point Cloud Data Plug-in option can be used to generate TIN data from laser-scanned point cloud data and model the terrain using terrain patch function, as well as to import point cloud data.
    Positions of the point cloud data can be adjusted by moving in parallel and rotating them inside the 3D space.
    With the plug-in's data export function, users can export the terrain data, generated from the point cloud data, in Land XML to a third party program.

UC-win/Road Ver.5.0 Special weather/performance Tsunami function
Special weather function

Introduction
  • We will introduce the new function of special weather function in UC-win/Road Ver.5.0. The new expressions are added to the existing weather function of rain, snow, wind, and fog so that we can strengthen the expression of rain and snow. In addition, the scope of fog and thunder functions which can be set the scope are added. For example, driving visibility of driving or difficulties in driving can be reproduced in 3D VR when bad weather or an intense weather conditions are simulated.

Main function
  • Rain
    The expression of the water ripples, rain flowing on windscreen, road puddles, the splash of preceding vehicle are added. The rain ripple function enables increased realism in rain expression by representing the spread of rainfall when it lands on the road.

    Rain by special weather function

    The appearance of rainfall and flow on the windscreen is represented. It is displayed in the front of the driven car, and varying driving visibilities are simulated. Flowing rain can be set by the texture. The road puddle function enables simulation of the puddle reflection of moving vehicles.The shape and reflectivity can be set.
    The water splash from the preceding vehicle is expressed by the display of water splash following the movement of a car tire. It represents the rain-slick road as a result of the heavy rain. The amount and the range of the splashing water can be set.

  • Snow
    The texture setting function for snow shape, and the snowstorm express function are added.
    The appearance of the bad weather in snowing can be expressed by integrating with the fog function.

  • Thunder
    Thunder function is a new function.The lightning bolt flashes in random intervals and the screen became brighten.
    The direction, extent, time interval for the lightning bolt can be set. Thunder can also be set.

  • Wind
    Wind function can represent the wind generated in a storm by sound and flying roadside trash. The texture of fallen leaves can be selected and visualized according to the varying wind strength and direction. The softness of the flown fabric can be expressed.
    The calculation of the site change of a large amount of trash is performed in parallel in graphics board, then they are sped up.

  • Fog(Volume fog)
    Fog simulation enables the generation of fog in specific area which was unavailable in existing fog function. The fog can be displayed where it requires by clicking the screen in same manner of model arrangement. The range and the density can be also set.
    The difference in the fog density can be expressed by the particles.

  • Expression of heat and cold
    This function enables expression of the heat and cold in midsummer and midwinter in VR. The bright color for summer, cold color for winter can be added to the screen.
    The road mirage occurs in far road surface in midsummer. This road mirage which occurred at great distance can be displayed by expressing the reflection.

Improved performance
  • As the special weather function increases in complexity, the new special weather function uses several functions including the animation function by the particle, arithmetic processing function which adds the several textures, the function which makes graphic board called "shader" perform special calculation. It therefore increases the speed of drawing. We aim for the performances not to decrease more than 5fps on the sample model.
Tsunami function

  • Tsunami function is added in UC-win/Road. A real water surface such as water splash by tsunami can be expressed.
    The simulation in UC-win/Road can be performed by combining the analysis result of xpswmm and data.
